Add product personalization fields on Shopify with Tailor

Collect engraving text, dropdown choices and required confirmations. Set up Tailor’s dedicated form and test that answers reach the correct cart item and order.

Decide exactly what your fulfillment team needs

Choose one personalizable product and write the information needed to make it correctly: an engraving, a finish choice or a spelling confirmation, for example. Use clear labels and realistic character limits. Do not ask for payment details or unnecessary personal information.

Tailor provides text, dropdown and checkbox fields. It does not upload files, change prices or charge for paid add-ons. Use one-time-purchase products with up to 50 variants and an Online Store 2.0 theme that supports app blocks.

Create and assign your first option set

Install Tailor from its Shopify listing and open it in Shopify admin. Review the Free or Growth terms, create your fields and mark the answers you need as required. For text, choose an appropriate maximum length; write dropdown choices the shopper can understand.

Choose the relevant products, save and enable the set, then turn on storefront display. Free allows one saved, non-archived option set. Growth is $9 USD per 30 days for up to 100 saved sets. Both have no percentage or per-order app fee. Shopify displays any applicable trial and renewal terms before approval.

Place the dedicated form beside Buy buttons

Work in a duplicate theme. Add the Tailor app block beside the original Buy buttons block in the product template. Keep the original block: while options are available, Tailor temporarily hides matching forms in that same product section and restores them when its block is removed.

Preview a product assigned to the enabled set. Tailor collects answers through its own product form. Other buy buttons, quick-buy routes and accelerated checkout do not collect those answers. Turn off or resolve alternate purchase paths for personalized products rather than assuming the form covers every route.

Follow the answers through the entire order

First try submitting with a missing required answer and text beyond your intended length. Then select the intended variant, enter valid answers and add the item through Tailor’s form. Check the quantity and answers on the correct cart line.

Continue through checkout and a suitable test order. Confirm that the details appear where your team reads the ordered item, and check any packing or fulfillment workflow separately. A visible product form alone does not prove every downstream system will retain or print the answers.

Repeat on mobile, and test your theme’s cart drawer, quick-buy controls and other purchase routes. Publish only after the intended personal-order path works and alternate paths are resolved. Test orders are setup evidence, not customer sales.

Maintain sets as the catalog changes

Saved sets count toward the allowance even while disabled. Archiving disables a set and frees a slot while keeping its fields and assignments. Restoring checks the current plan limit and leaves the restored set disabled until you review and enable it.

When you change a field or product assignment, repeat the cart and order checks before accepting new personalized orders. Give your team a clear next step for missing or unclear answers, and measure completed orders and support needs separately from form submissions.
